January – March 2012

Well Summer came & went in a hurry, although I don’t remember it being much of a Summer. There has been allot of rain & so the feed on the property is simply amazing. There have been a few happenings over the past few months as well as future events. One future event we are very much looking forward to is in late October 2012. Through ACPRE Australia Mercedes González Cort will be holding clinics & seminars throughout Australia later in 2012. We are very excited to be attending this with ‘Merlin’. Mercedes is a Master Rider & Instructor from Spain using Classical methods specialising in lightness and understanding equine conformation for movement & functionality.
 
One of her extensive qualifications is having completed at the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, Austria a Diplomature of the Spanische Hofreitschule, Wien, Austria. 1980-81.

She was also the last pupil of del Colonel Podhasky

Mercedes is extremely well respected & her experience is so wide and varied. We are planning to attend at least 3 lessons with ‘Merlin’ under saddle (& me aboard) as well as the Breed Morphology Seminar – which is across the board for any breed not simply PRE or Baroque horses.

We are also having ‘Merlin’ Evaluated by Mercedes during the ‘EQUIPRE AUSTRALIA (morphology & movement)’ This includes a FULL Morphology & Movement Written Evaluation/Accreditation as wel as a Ridden accreditation.

Michaels training is based on the classical principles of Nuno Oliveira.
He has studied and trained extensively in the art of classical riding and horsemanship, and has spent time in Portugal with one of the country's' leading breeders and trainers of Lusitano horses. This clinic will be run over 3 days with the opportunity for fantastic 1 on 1 lessons as well as a highly informative theory session.

257 Favory Pallavicina ‘Merlin’ is my dream horse. If you can picture that perfect ‘Unicorn’ like figure then ‘Merlin’ would be that horse. He has certainly morphed into a stunning horse but there was always something very different & very special about him from birth. As a stallion he has superb conformation, pizzazz, movement, temperament & trainability. As a Lipizzaner  ‘Merlin’  is arguably one of the best examples of his breed worldwide he has an abundance of breed type & amazing natural ability & strength for the discipline of dressage. Unfortunately inclement weather saw the Bowral Dressage competition in February cancelled. ‘Merlin’ was entered into the 4 year old young horse qualifier. His training & light competition will continue throughout 2012 in preparation for the 2013 5 year old CDI young horse competition. We have decided not to serve with him now for at least 2 more seasons which will enable him to concentrate on his work. However this magnificent stallion will be marketed overseas via frozen semen, we have already had interest in him which is fantastic As always we are very thankful to have such a wonderful trainer & rider in Michael. 2012 will also see me, with the guidance & instruction from Michael, riding ‘Merlin’. Hopefully in some lower level competitions at the end of the year as well as the Mercedes Cort Clinic in the ACT late in October this year. That is the goal.

279 Monza At present this outstanding filly is beginning her in hand ground work in preparation for backing later down the track. She is a pleasure to work with. Typical of the Lipizzaner, Monza has more often than not explained things to me. Unfortunately after working so long with Eskiden AP (Arabian Colt) I do sometimes forget to ‘tone my actions’ down with Monza, she reminds me none the less. Our beautiful filly is currently available for purchase, please contact the stud for further details.

114 Bonita our beautiful old girl is still going strong at 30 ½ years of age! I took the opportunity recently to get some photos of her. She is a shimmering snow white mare of 50% Hungarian & 50% Piber breeding. A cross of genetics that resulted in one of the best Purebred mares Australasia has ever seen the likes of. The lovely length of neck well set out of the shoulders & a clean join to the head, big eyes, long limbs (but not overly) excellent length from stifle to hock, great feet & a strong square hind quarter & short coupling. As you can expect with age & having had some many foals things tend to sag a little. However the absolute quality of this mare is still easily seen even in old age.

Girl Power is such an outstanding filly & we can not wait to begin showing her as a youngster. Our aim for her 1st show will be the 2013 AHSA National Show. We don’t plan to show her allot as a baby, just a couple of the big Arabian shows. The focus with Princess will be as a 3.5 – 4 year old under saddle before she is put in foal as a 5 year old. Loads of talent this filly.! Very excited about what she will produce for us in the future to ‘Merlin’. At the moment I am very much leaning towards Furst Love for her 1st foal. If she produces a filly it would be something that we would seriously consider incorporating into our performance horse breeding program.

Eskiden AP ‘Sunny’ is such a beautiful boy. The hard decision to sell him was made & he has a wonderful home now in Victoria with his new doting owner Kassandra. He will be her only horse & treated like absolute royality (something he has been accustomed to from birth) Whilst we had hoped to see him go on to breed not everyone has the facilities to house an entire, so Sunny was gelded before leaving Annwn Park & is headed for the show ring – in hand & under saddle. Quality stallions make exceptional geldings & the most important thing is he will be fully appreciated & adored. We look forward to regular updates on his progress. ‘Sunny’ has such a huge loveable temperament with striking natural good looks, outgoing personality, wonderful height & beautiful colour which will certainly make him stand out in the crowd.

100 Favory Neapolitano It is with a heavy heart that I report of the passing of the magnificent stallion 100 Favory Neapolitano I ‘Fred’. Fred was Annwn Parks 1st stud stallion & came to us later in life then went on to retire in QLD a few years ago. He had endured a very hard life from a young age & it took him some time to settle into a relaxed state of mind here. But in time it was a pleasure to watch him with his mares & foals. He was the perfect herd stallion & many a time he was left with the duties of ‘baby sitter’ while the mares grazed down the paddock, a job he loved as he would groom the foals & discipline them firmly but kindly. He was bred in 1986 (Oct 12) by Karolly Keeves in SA. From the classical line sire (1Favory Gaeta I iid) out of the Hungarian bred mare (Neapolitano XIX-2imp). Fred stood at near 15hh but many thought him to be well over 15.2hh such was his presence & grandeur. He left behind a  legacy of exceptional offspring (in particular his daughters) & their progeny continue to display his strength of pre potency for excellent substance, magnificent free movement especially his big swinging walk, superb fronts with beautifully shaped necks, length of rein & expressive heads not to forget that amazing hindquarter! Fred certainly played a huge role in the quality of Lipizzaner horses within Australasia & just about every Lipizzaner breeder within Australasia has a direct daughter &/or grand offspring from Fred.Fred sired some 20 Purebred foals & many quality part bred foals.
RIP old man I am sure your enjoying your time with your mares over the rainbow bridge.

Annwn Park Arawn is a Lipizzaner x Andalusian gelding that we bred in 2005 & exported to New Zealand as a weanling. He has grown into an amazing horse. Standing well over 16hh, with a wonderful temperament, beautiful movement & trainability. Arawn is an example of the quality Lipizzaner derivative Annwn Park strives to breed. What a beautiful horse & we are so thrilled to see his owner getting so much pleasure from him. He is pictured attending (& being ridden by) Romon Guerro’s clinic in New Zealand. Clearly he was buckskin at birth & as he greys out he is a beautiful golden dapple colour. I remember him well as a foal & weanling. Such an easy horse to get along with & train & he has lost none of his wonderful temperament. Just a beautiful horse.

Indra the 1st Purebred Lipizzaner female bred here in 2004. She was sold as a weanling to Di Bootle of Cowra NSW. Sired by 226 Favory Naussica from 109 Linda, has grown into a lovely young mare. She is nearly snow white & shows her bay genetics through her ticking in her coat. This is through her dam who was by the imported Bay mare Incitato IX-10. Indra will be presented for accreditation during 2012. She displays beautiful light movement & temperament. We are very proud of this mare & her wonderful loving owner Di.

JJ Lipizzans of Slovenia have recently expressed interest in making available their top quality Lipizzaner stallions  (accredited in Sweden) via frozen semen to breeders in Australasia with the help of Annwn Park. Presently we are simply seeking expressions of interest from breeders within Australasia. This is a huge step for the breed & in such a small genetic pool of horses with so few stallion lines available it is also a wonderful opportunity to grow the breed within Australasia
The stallions are: 22 Maestoso Romida (15.3hh), 23 Maestoso Gaetana (Bay)
This would be the 1st time that the Maestoso line has been successfully introduced into Australian genetics, it is the only classical line that has eluded breeders out here.
