Welcome to the News page for Annwn Park Lipizzaner Stud.

This page is intended to keep our Past, Current & Future clients, up to date with all Foaling News, Shows & Sales.

Along with updates on the horses at ‘Annwn Park ‘.

December 2009 – February 2010

Finally the rain came. With 153 mls over the Christmas break & New Year & more good rain in the beginning of February. Its like Spring with green grass everywhere & dams overflowing .

OUR HORSE UPDATES

Right: ‘Merlin’ continues to be the light of our Lipizzaner breeding program. He continually takes my breath away every time I see him standing in his paddock. He is just so correct & exudes a certain quality & charisma that can take years to find.

His mares are equally as beautiful, charismatic & correct as he is in every way…so we can just imagine the foals from our 3 magnificent mares to ‘Merlin’

The 2010/2011 breeding season will be his first, as a 3 year old. However ‘Merlin’ will not be available at Public Stud

Right & Below: Cooroora Contessa & Eskiden AP Have both arrived home form being away at Stud for 6 weeks. ‘Tessa’ is now in foal to the lovely tall Australian Champion Arabian stallion, Sanadik Ibn Estopa (imp) (photo bottom right). We would like to thank Jenny Pond of Forest Hill Stud for all of her relentless work in getting Tessa bred to

Sanadik.

With ‘Sunny’ being such a large foal Tess had decided to shut shop early. But with Jenny’s persistence, excellent technique & knowledge she was served in the middle of

January & is expecting in December 2010. We cant WAIT!!

Tessa’s current foal at foot ‘Sunny’ (Eskiden AP) is just absolutely stunning. He is tall, he is 100% correct he has loads of pizzazz & his movement is out of this world all topped off with a highly confident & trusting sensible nature. He is a definite stallion prospect. You can see how tall he is next to his dam. Tessa is 15.3hh & ‘Sunny’ is 3.5 months of age in these photos. His joints are bigger then hers & cannons much longer again. So I believe we can be confident in saying his mature height will verge well towards 15.3hh

A NEW MARE FOR THE STUD

103 Lili Pictured below Left & Middle - In January 2010 we acquired the lovely Purebred Lipizzaner mare, 103 Lili. By 29 Pluto Neapolitano III  (dec) from the lovely imported Bay Hungarian mare,  Incitato IX-10 Imp (dec). Lili is of the rare 4 sz Mezohegyesi Mare Line (meaning ‘the fourth from Mezohegyes Stud’, a large old Stud situated in Hungary & no longer breeding Lipizzaners). This mare line has died out & Australasia is perhaps the only place that has examples of it that survive. She is related to 100 Favory Neapolitano I (Fred) though the mare Neapolitano XIX-2 (Both Lili’s Sire & Fred shared this same dam) This is evident in the classical baroque head that Lili has along with her exceptional front (see below pics of Lili on the left & one of Fred on the right) . We are confident she will cross back well to “Merlin’’ as she is quite like 237 Sagana in type. We aim to have uniform mares to cross back to ‘Merlin’. Her movement is amazingly powerful & she has a very endearing nature with loads of pizzazz but always tractable. I do like my horses to have presence coupled with wonderful natures. 103 Lili is currently being bred to the Lipizzaner Stallion, Conversano Allegra V (imp Slovenia). It is hoped she will produce a filly for us to this outstanding stallion before being bred to ‘Merlin’ next season.

114 Bonita Below: A grand old Lady at 29 years, she is a pleasure to have gracing our paddocks.  114 Bonita is a magnificent Purebred Lipizzaner mare by Pluto Plutona – 14 (imp) & from the big Hungarian mare Conversano XX-17 (imp.) She is the last living offspring of her dam & perhaps the Oldest living Lipizzaner in Australia, she is definately a living example of our Lipizzaner history in Australasia. She is photographed here having a great time swimming in the dam on a very hot day during January 2010.

Below: 237 Sagana: continues to recover well from her injury & it is hoped that she will be able to carry her own pregnancies.  At the very least we will still be able to produce some stunning foals from her via ET.

HORSES WE HAVE BRED

Lipizzaners in Western Australia

The Lipizzaner breed is experiencing wonderful accolades in WA. Annwn Park Stud has been fortunate enough to have 4 of our horses, that we have bred, calling WA their home. Three of them are owned by Lesley & Will Taylor, of Denmark WA. Lesley & Will began their Lipizzaner adventure when they purchased the weanling, Annwn Park Aurora for Lesley’s then birthday in 2005.  Less then 3 years later they purchased the yearling Purebred Lipizaner gelding, Favory Gigi II. Their most recent acquisition is the lovely 25 Annwn Park Anara. Lesley has trained & backed both Aurora & Favory Gigi II herself & will begin Anara’s training later this year. She is an avid dressage rider & Lipizzaner enthusiast that enjoys getting her horses out & about.

Below are photo’s of Lesley & Wills – Annwn Park Aurora & then Annwn Park Anara & Favory Gigi II together

Favory Gigi I – Is a Purebred Lipizzaner stallion that we bred in 2005. He is a full brother to Lesley Taylors Favory Gigi II. He is by 100 Favory Neapolitano I & from 105 Gigi. He is owned by Ull Paschen & is now working well in hand & under saddle. ‘Favory’, as he is known, is Ull’s pride & joy. Below are photos taken in January 2010

DECEMBER 2009

Spring came & went pretty quickly, with not enough rain (as most of NSW) our dams have dried & tanks are running low, so we are praying for rain!! Very soon

OUR HORSE UPDATES

Right & Below: 257 Favory Pallavicina ‘Merlin’ attended the National Capital Horse show on November 29th in the ACT where he was awarded Champion Purebred Lipizzaner Exhibit. He was very well behaved & showed them just what all the ‘hype’ is about with the Lipizzaner breed. He is proving to be an exceptional young stallion with movement & presence that attracts lots of attention.  The following comment is from one of his fans & his breeder, Georgina Beard: ‘This is one awesome looking colt! The second headshot with profile and the trot photo where he is showing huge hock action are the ones that really blow me away. He is lovely.’

Everyone that see’s him can’t help but be in awe of his beauty… We are very excited about the future prospect of having foals on the ground by this boy. Of course, we have updated NEW PHOTOS of Merlin on the stallion page & on his Link Page. Below are some photos of Merlin taken at the NCHS SHOW in November 2009.

Eskiden AP (pend) (AKA Sunny) Is growing rapidly. He is one helluva big colt with a big personality to go with it. He is extremely confident & showy & loves nothing more then to crawl into your lap (yes…your lap) & have a sleep.

Typical Arabian temperament, we are really excited about this boy’s future. It’s been a magical cross & his dam, Cooroora Contessa is booked to be served by Sanadik Ibn Estopa this season. She is a very impressive mare already proving her value as a breeding mare by producing such quality in her first foal

RECENTLY SOLD

The lovely tall 25 Annwn Park Anara (2006 Lipizzaner Sport-horse filly) has found a new home with Lesley & Will Taylor of WA. Lesley & Will also own Annwn Park Aurora & 250 Favory Gigi II. They have very much fallen in love with the Lipizzaner breed. We wish them all the best with this outstanding filly, She is truly awesome in every way possible so we can not wait to see her under saddle

STUD NEWS EXPECTED FOALS & BREEDING

Below: Our oldest mare, 114 Bonita – celebrated her 29th birthday in September. This amazing mare is the last living foal from the mare Conversano XXIX-17 (imp). ‘Bonnie’ is the most beautiful tall mare with an exceptional temperament. She has produced outstanding offspring & is the dam of AP Aurora. Although she has developed ring-bone over the last 24 months, she definatley does not show her age to look at her. So we take it day by day with our wonderful old mare, at the moment she has no idea she is 29…….

HORSES WE HAVE BRED

Left: 249 Favory Gigi II (aka Chopin) 2006 born Purebred Lipizzaner Gelding is now under saddle. 3 years have gone by very fast & it’s wonderful to see Chopin being ridden by his owner Lesley, who also owns Annwn Park Aurora

Lesley says he is a ‘Star’ & we have no doubt of this with his beautiful big expressive movement & wonderful temperament. The photo left is his first ride which he took all in his stride.

He has always been a very calm individual & has loved to be around people from the moment he was born on top of being extremely trainable in all areas

Below: Annwn Park Aurora. The beautiful  2004 born Lipizzaner x Andalusian mare AP Aurora is the last foal from 114 Bonita & we couldn’t be prouder of her. She is owned by Lesley Taylor (see above) from WA & is working beautifully under saddle. She is related to ‘Chopin’ (Favory Gigi II) thoguh her dam, as 114 Bonita is the Grand Dam of ‘Chopin’

HORSES REC

AUGUST - OCTOBER 2009

Spring is here bringing plenty of feed in the paddocks, its lovely to see everything so green (until summer) Spring also
means the commencement of Show Season & Training as well as Breeding Season & Foaling.

OUR HORSE UPDATES|

Below: 257 Favory Pallavicina ‘Merlin’
was shown with huge success at the AWHA Gala Show on August 29th 2009
where he won Champion Lipizzaner Exhibit. The weather left allot to be desired with strong wind accompanied by rain!
which cleared in the afternoon AFTER we had done our class…oh well. For the most ‘Merlin’ was well behaved, all be it a
little stirred by the wind & the commotion of so many other horses & smells around him. He was a normal young horse,
but proud to say he wasn’t a ‘young stallion’, although that will come in time I am sure, as we are just hitting that
magical 2 year old tantrum stage. He is a magnificent animal with loads of presence. He has been having some time to
be a horse with a young gelding we have & will come back in for a few weeks late November for the NCHS & the AHAA
State shows, he will then be turned out again till January/February before coming back into light on & off work in preparation for breaking in as a 3.5 year old

There are NEW PHOTOS of Merlin from the AWHA Show on his Link Page. I would like to thank Ilona Abou
Zolof of
ilona@optushome.com.au for the lovely photos taken at the show. Below are some photos of Merlin taken in
early October 2009.

NEW ADDITIONS:

Below: Introducing Annwn Park Eskiden (pend), (Chestnut Purebred Arabian Colt) His name which loosely
translated means Once Only’ in Turkish/Arabian. A perfect name for him as he is & will be the only foal of this breeding & the only foal by Fire Storm KEI. Born October 18th at 3.30 am by Fire Storm KEI from Cooroora Contessa (15.3hh), he was 9 days early THANK GOD…had he have gone full term, he would have been too massive for Tessa.

He is a very big colt being very much the build of his grandsire Cooroora Aheyme when he was born, legs too long to fit under him, big joints, short compact back, huge well laid back shoulder and the promise of a long neck. He also has his sires lovely expressive head & curly tipped Arab ears. We are excited at the prospect of watching this stunning baby grow up as well as training & showing him.

Annwn Park Eskiden has his own Link page off the Stallion Page where you can view more photos & full pedigree. He is stallion quality & we will strive to show & campaign him as he grows before standing him at stud. Photos will be updated on a regular basis as he develops. He is truly bred in the purple with a high % of crabbet breeding, Polish, some Egyptian,
GSB & Spanish. Eskiden has 4 crosses to *Shazada through his dam & other greats like Banderol, Fame Maker R,
Wanted KE, Sindh, WN Dajsmir, Hamil, Inschallah El Shaklan & Darinth.

UPDATES ON HORSES WE HAVE BRED & SOLD

Left:  Annwn Park Aurora ‘Rori’ – 2004 Lipizzaner x Andalusian Mare.

“Rori’ was purchased as a weanling & headed to WA. She has been with her much devoted owner /trainer Lesley Taylor. Rori is the last foal from 114 Bonita & she is going well under, attending clinics with Lesley. They are pictured left, together at a clinic with Colleen Kelly in July.

Lesley says Colleen adored Rori. One thing she remembers Colleen saying
was not to expect high marks at the lower grades (Preliminary, Novice and
perhaps Elementary) but she said once they get beyond Elementary "she'll
whip their asses". She said Rori's already doing some of the higher
movements naturally.

Left:  Annwn Park Aurora (left) & 251 Favory Gigi II (right) with their
proud owner Lesley Taylor of WA.

Rori’ (also pictured above) was bred by us in 2004, she is by an Andalusian
Stallion & from our lovely Lipizzaner mare 114 Bonita.

251 Favory Gigi II (‘Chopin’) was bred by us in 2006. He is a Purebred
Lipizzaner gelding by 100 Favory Neapolitano I.

‘Chopin’ is his paddock name & he has recently begun his training in hand for preparation under saddle. Lesley says he loves to learn

GENERAL STUD NEWS EXPECTED FOALS & BREEDING

237 Sagana We have had some bad news over the past few months. In late August 237 Sagana (Garla) our beautiful big purebred Lipizzaner mare broke her pelvis…HOW? We are un-certain, as the weather was calm & warm.
Unfortunately it happened on the one day no-one was home. She was quickly confined on the vets advice to heal. After a it of an ‘iffy’ time with her, it appears she is now on the slow road to recovery. We are hopeful that she will still be able to breed in 12 – 24 months time, we are just thankful she is still with us. She is such an outstanding mare, the Lipizzaner breed can not afford to loose such a quality purebred mare.

Cooroora Contessa is being booked to the stunning 16hh Chestnut Australian Arabian Champion, Sanadik Ibn Estopa.Wow, that union should be nothing short of spectacular!! Especially after Tessa’s first foal, AP Eskiden, being so big &correct.

APRIL - JULY 2009

Not allot of news, as through Winter we don’t tend to show our horses, the weather is just to inconsistent & they
enjoy a seasonal break. We have had some good rain, but still need more to ensure dams are full for Summer, but with
fewer stock numbers now, it will be more manageable.

OUR HORSE UPDATES

Below: 257 Favory Pallavicina ‘Merlin’ (photos July 2009) has begun his in hand training. We attended our first
clinic together, under the instruction of Davyd & Christina, from A La Castina. It was a great weekend & looking
forward to continuing our training with Davyd & Christina. Merlin was introduced to the roller for the first time, with out a
care. It is planned that his training will continue in hand with me along with lessons for us both on a regular basis
this will prepare him physically & mentally for being placed under saddle in late 2010 as a 3 year old stallion.

There are NEW PHOTOS of Merlin on the Stallion Page & his Link Page. Taken late July 2009 & also from the clinic
in July. He is certainly growing up & is promising to have exceptional height upon maturity, so we are confident he will
reach his expected height of 15.2hh+.  We have had numerous positive remarks about him & that he is VERY hard to
fault, which is true. As a breeder we wanted the best in a young colt & so, we have succeeded with ‘Merlin’.
We also breed more towards the Hungarian style of Lipizzaner & ‘Merlin’ fits the bill perfectly on all accounts.

Below: Cooroora Contessa has settled in very well. She is such a tall mare, easy 15.3hh or just over. Her foal belly
is very noticeable now, & we are eager to see what she will have in October this year. There are NEW PHOTOS of
Tessa on the mare page & her link page, taken in July 2009. She has such a wonderful temperament & movement to
burn, so it will be exciting to see the result when we breed her back to ‘Merlin’ in a few years time.

CVURRENT SALES

RIGHT: We currently have the lovely Lipizzaner Sport-horse filly, 25 Annwn Park Anara, available for purchase. She is
on the Fior Sale [age along with
updated photos on her Link Page, taken in July 2009. She is a very tall substantial filly,
so at this stage looking good to reach to 16hh.

Registered with the LAA, & can be registered with The AWSHA & ACE.

UPDATES ON HORSES WE HAVE SOLD

Left:. Annwn Park Arawn ‘Santos’ – 2005 Lipizzaner x PRE Gelding.

“Santos’ was exported to New Zealand as a weanling in 2006. He has been the much treasured equine partner of Anne Nicol since. ‘

Santos’ was started under saddle in 2008 & has just come back into work after a break through winter.

He is from the Lipizzaner mare 79 Saturn & by a PRE stallion. A VERY tall boy, at rising 4 he is over 16hh. Anne says he still has his wonderful people loving nature & she is thrilled with him

Favory Saturn – 2007 Purebred Lipizzaner Gelding, sold to Anne Montgomery of WA, attended his very fist show in May 2009.

He took out Champion Lipizzaner over older horses, which is a fantastic result for both Ann & ‘Saturn’. He was well behaved & performed well.

Ann is an EFA NCAS Registered instructor in WA. We can’t wait ton see him under saddle in a couple of years.

GENERAL STUD NEWS EXPECTED FOALS & BREEDING

We are expecting only one foal this season. A purebred Arabian foal from Cooroora Contessa & by Fire Storm KEI
(Sarajevo KEI x Mulawa Fire Flame). This foal is due in October 09 & should be a wonderful prospect for endurance.
The breeding of this foal is very much in the purple of Australia’s much sort after endurance bloodlines

With Merlin now in work & at the crucial beginning his future performance career, I have decided to put the breeding
side of things on hold for a while. Merlin has so much natural talent & ability that I am thoroughly enjoying training &
working with him & this takes dedication, time & money.

DECEMBER - MARCH 2009

We have had a few changes over the past few months. ‘Fred’ has gone onto his retirement home & we have had some

wonderful show results with 257 Favory Pallavicina. On the breeding side of things, this season has been less then

expected. With many mares all over not producing pregnancies our mares decided that they also wanted the season

off. A disappointing result, however there is always next season.

100 Favory Neapolitano IPhotos Left at 23 taken a week before his big trip to QLD - has now been retired  now. After this breeding season we felt that the old boy at 23 just couldn’t cope with another season of hunting mares about. He has an ‘old age’ home in QLD.

‘Fred’ has given the Lipizzaner breed in Australia some outstanding legacies in his progeny that exceed expectations. He has Purebred & Part-bred progeny all over Australia working in varying disciplines from Dressage through to Harness & Haute Ecole. He has been a pleasure to have stand at stud here over the past 3.5 years & we will miss him dearly.

A wonderful classically baroque stallion, with perhaps with the most definite ‘Lipizzaner Look’ that I have come across in Australia. His foals have all inherited his brave bold & confident natures, yet they remain highly trainable & loyal.

They are tall with masses of bone substance & that true ‘Stamp’ of his look. We retain two lovely young mares by ‘Fred’ 237 Sagana, a 4 year old Purebred mare & 25 Annwn  Park Anara, a 2 year old Lipizzaner Sport Horse filly by‘Fred’ (Anara is currently offered for sale).

Both have allot of their sire in them & should cross back magically to ‘Merlin’.

Below: 257 Favory Pallavicina (Merlin) – Winning Champion Led Purebred or Partbred Lipizzaner at the 2009 Royal Bathurst Show. This was Merlin’s 3rd show with the judge commenting on how patient & well behaved he was & what a lovely horse he was. Merlin had his 2nd show in January 2009 where he was Grand Champion Colt/Stallion at a local All Breeds show.

Merlin will continue compete at some local shows in All Breed classes through until April & then just be a horse
through winter, which I am sure he will enjoy! His next show after winter will be at the AWHA Gala Weekend at SIEC
August 29th 2009
where we have kindly been offered to show case our lovely breed & then again in November 2009
at the NSW AHAA Championship show with perhaps some Spring shows in between. He has some big hooves to fill
as he comes up to be our next stallion at stud.

But we are more then confident that ‘Merlin’ will exceed everyone’s expectations of him as a Lipizzaner Stallion & also
as a Sire. You can see new updated photos of Merlin on his page

NEW ADDITIONS

Right: We would like to introduce the lovely Purebred Arabian Mare Cooroora Contessa & say a big thanks to Anne. Born October 2005, Tessa is HUGE. She stands just over 15.3hh. Her breeding is exceptional with Polish & Crabbet breeding & a bit of Spanish thrown in. She is heavily bred in the purple for endurance.

Tessa is currently in foal to Fire Storm KEI (Sarajevo KEI x Mulawa Fire Flame) for a purebred Arabian foal in October 2009, a foal we are hoping to retain. She is well backed & has competed lightly in some endurance rides, so we are looking forward to perhaps competing her lightly & enjoying her along with being very excited about covering her in time with ‘Merlin’. More information & photos as well as her full breeding can be viewed on her respective page.

UPDATES ON HORSES WE HAVE SOLD

249 Sava – A full younger sister to 237 Sagana is now well in
harness. We sold Sava to Habsburg Lipizzaners, SA, in mid
2008.

Left: Is a photo of her the 2nd week in a light jogger. All
reports are that she is doing very well & proving very
talented in harness. She certainly has the movement for
harness competition.

Favory Saturn – Lipizzaner Gelding has his 1st show in May 2009.  His loving owner, Ann, is very excited about him. ‘Saturn’ continues to grow well & is developing into a lovely Lipizzaner with nice proportions & conformation. He is also a bit of a character getting up to his usual mischief & he never likes to be left out of anything. Below are some photos of Saturn & Ann at the beach together in Summer 2009. Ann is an EFA NCAS Registered instructor in WA.

GENERAL STUD NEWS EXPECTED FOALS & BREEDING

Finally out lovely big stables are up & well in use. It’s a bit   more of a luxury having cement floored stables & an indoor wash/crush area. The next project will be to finish the arena. We are hoping this will be done before the end of Winter 2009. Everything takes time, but is well worth it in the end.

Left: ‘Merlin’ in his lovely new stable

We have had some excellent rain coming into Autumn & Winter, which should see some really good feed come
away for Spring. Its certainly given certainly given us a much needed top up in the dam’s & tanks.

We are expecting one foal this season. A lovely purebred Arabian foal from Cooroora Contessa & by Fire Storm KEI
(Sarajevo KEI x Mulawa Fire Flame)

Our plans for the 2009/2010 breeding season include 237 Sagana being bred to a Purebred Lipizzaner stallion. We have
not yet decided which one, but are certainly looking at 3 prospects.

Our lovely Thoroughbred mare ‘DY’ (Zippy Gal) will also be bred this season. We have not decided on a stallion
choice for her & will begin the search in spring time for a suitable. ‘DY’, who, herself is quite a baroque looking mare!
With very baroque movement (lots of hock & knee) & a wonderfully fine chiseled baroque style head, on top of a
temperament to die for, should produce a lovely foal.
